| Born in Buffalo,
NY, Kathryn Cielewich Gentzke spent five years living in Central and
Eastern Europe before relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area in
September 2008. She graduated magna cum laude with a BFA in
photography from the State University of New York at Buffalo in
2002, and in 2006 received an MA with Honors in Humanities from
Jacobs University in Bremen, Germany. In 2001, Kathryn was awarded
the Rumsey Scholarship which funded her travel and photographic work
throughout Greece and Sicily. She was also a Jacobs University
graduate fellowship recipient from 2004 through 2006, and has
exhibited her work across the United States and abroad. Currently,
Kathryn is an adjunct professor in the departments of Fine Art and
Humanities at Diablo Valley College, and the First Exposures
Photography Instructor for SF Camerwork. She was recently recognized
by the California Legislature Assembly and the City and County of
San Francisco Board of Supervisors for her commitment to civic
engagement and youth empowerment.
